Broncos’ Troy Franklin leaves Bills game with hamstring injury
Although Bo Nix probably deserves more credit than he receives, a stingy defense is what fuels the Denver Broncos’ Super Bowl chances. The offense does not boast a ton of flashy weapons or big names, and it just got thinner following the latest news. Second-year wide receiver Troy Franklin suffered a hamstring injury in Saturday’s AFC Divisional Round showdown with the Buffalo Bills and is considered questionable to return, per Zac Stevens of DNVR Sports.
Nix has excellent chemistry with Franklin, having spent two years with him at Oregon before they arrived together in the Mile High City. The young quarterback is thriving in the face of adversity, however. He was 13-of-23 passing for 150 yards and two touchdowns in the first half, while also rushing for 29 yards. Nix looks much more composed than he was when the two teams squared off in last year’s playoffs. If that holds true, the Broncos could be one win away from returning to the Super Bowl.
The No. 12 overall pick in the 2024 NFL Draft led a crucial scoring drive before halftime, connecting with Lil’Jordan Humphrey for a 29-yard touchdown pass with just 22 seconds left on the clock. Denver then capitalized on a huge Josh Allen blunder and went into the locker room up 20-10. Bo Nix is rising to the occasion, but overpowering the persistent Bills should be easier if Troy Franklin makes it back to the gridiron.
The 6-foot-3 pass-catcher registered 65 receptions for 709 yards and six touchdowns, finishing second in all three categories behind two-time Pro Bowler Courtland Sutton. He is a valued member of this offense. Though, it looks as if the Broncos might be equipped to prevail under trying circumstances if necessary.
