Brendan Rodgers could make move for key Liverpool star as Saudi clubs circle

Saudi dealmakers could reignite their interest in Liverpool goalkeeper Alisson, talkSPORT understands.

Liverpool don’t wish to sell the 33-year-old Brazilian, who is set to begin the new season as Andoni Iraola‘s No.1.

The club’s position was made clear to Juventus earlier in the summer, with the Serie A side moving on to other targets, including Aston Villa‘s Emiliano Martinez.

Liverpool have not yet had any direct approach from Saudi clubs, but that could change in the coming weeks as keeper exits materialise.

Al Ittihad hold a historical interest in Alisson and could yet reignite talks.

Saudi sources believe Al Ittihad are open to signing another foreign goalkeeper despite Serbian keeper Predrag Rajkovic being at the club.

Al Qadsiah, managed by former Liverpool boss Brendan Rodgers, have also been linked with a move.

talkSPORT understands Qadsiah would only add another keeper if Koen Casteels departs, and this is not the current plan.

Casteels only has one year left on his contract and is drawing interest from Club Brugge. The Belgian side might wait until 2027 to sign Casteels on a free.

Al Hilal must also decide whether to keep Morocco stopper Yassine Bounou, who is drawing suitors from both Turkey and Argentina.

There is no suggestion they have added Alisson to their radar as of now. However, Alisson was one of the names they discussed back in summer 2023, but no offer was ever made to the player or Liverpool.

Former Bournemouth technical director Simon Francis is now working for Al Hilal, and Richard Hughes is likely to join once this summer window ends, or at the latest when his summer 2027 contract ends.

As a result, Al Hilal are expected to be transparent should they decide to pursue any Liverpool targets, and no contact or expression of interest has been made to date.

Some Saudi reports also list newly promoted Al Diriyah as holding an interest in Alisson, yet sources have told talkSPORT this is not the case. Al Diriyah have former Crystal Palace sporting director Dougie Freedman leading their recruitment.

Alisson is not expected to agitate for a move, leaving Liverpool in a strong position. He was tempted by Juventus’ offer, but a transfer has not progressed.

Alisson knows he will start next season as the first-choice keeper at Anfield, so does not need to consider leaving for minutes despite long-term faith from the club in Giorgi Mamardashvili.

Liverpool would require a substantial fee to change their position on Alisson, and a move to Saudi is therefore viewed as unlikely.

Suggestions Liverpool would entertain a sale around €15million (£12.7m) are wide of the mark.

No specific valuation has been offered to any interested club, but only a figure well north of that number would result in Liverpool engaging.
