Brahim Diaz in ultimate humiliation as he watches Senegal’s AFCON hero given stadium ovation
Brahim Diaz was handed a brutal reminder of Morocco’s Africa Cup of Nations final defeat on his Real Madrid return.
The winger missed the chance to grab a stoppage time winner against Senegal after chipping his penalty straight at Edouard Mendy.

Diaz was left in tears after missing the controversial spot-kick, which he took 15 minutes after it had been awarded.
Senegal then went on to win the match in extra-time after a thunderous strike from Pape Gueye.
The Villarreal midfielder was presented with two trophies upon his return to club action on Saturday at the Estadio de la Ceramica.
Gueye lined up for the Spanish side as they faced Diaz’s Real Madrid in LaLiga.
Prior to kick-off, he received a standing ovation during the ceremony as he appeared with his AFCON winner’s medal round his neck.
Diaz was forced to watch on from the substitutes bench as the camera cut to him.
Several photographers could also be seen stood in front of the 26-year-old to capture his reaction.
The dramatic conclusion to the AFCON final saw Morocco miss out on their second continental title and a first for 50 years.
Diaz was later presented with the tournament’s golden boot during the post-match ceremony.
His tally of five goals in seven matches was enough to finish as top scorer.

Meanwhile, the forward took to social media to issue an emotional apology the following day, writing: “My soul hurts.
“I dreamed of this title thanks to all the love you all gave me, every message, every show of support that made me feel I wasn’t alone.
“I fought with everything I had, with my heart above all else.
“Yesterday I failed and I take full responsibility. I apologise from the bottom of my heart.
“It will be hard for me to recover, because this wound doesn’t heal easily… but I will try. Not for myself, but for everyone who believed in me and for everyone who suffered with me.
“I will keep going forward until one day I can give you all this love back and become a source of pride for my Moroccan people.”

Having returned to the Spanish capital, Diaz was a second half substitute against Villarreal – replacing Arda Guler for the final ten minutes.
His late cameo helped Real Madrid claim a 2-0 away win following a brace from Kylian Mbappe.
The result sees Los Blancos leapfrog Barcelona at the top of the table having played a game more.
Their El Clasico rivals are two points behind ahead of their clash with Oviedo on Sunday.
