Bournemouth vs Liverpool predictions
The longest existing unbeaten run in the Premier League belongs not to Arsenal, Aston Villa or Manchester City, but to Liverpool.
Arne Slot’s side have gone 10 matches without defeat since they came unstuck at home to Nottingham Forest in November.
If they do not lose to Bournemouth this weekend, Liverpool will equal this season’s longest undefeated sequence (Arsenal with 11).
It does not really feel that way, though. Six of those unbeaten matches have ended with the scores level.
A recent 0-0 draw at the Emirates Stadium was a good result, but since the start of last month Liverpool have dropped four points against Leeds United, and two against each of Sunderland, Fulham and Burnley.
Had they won just three of those games, the Reds would be on 42 points rather than 36. They might even still be in the title race – just about.
In reality, a 14-point deficit to Arsenal means Liverpool will not be crowned champions of England this season.
Their focus is instead on a top-four finish. Qualifying for the Champions League makes such a difference financially. Liverpool will not want to miss out.
Slot’s side have been more consistent on the continent than they have been domestically this term.
A 3-0 victory over Marseille on Wednesday means Liverpool are well positioned to advance directly to the round of 16. They have already beaten Real Madrid and Inter in that competition this term.
In a sense, then, Liverpool do not seem to have much trouble getting themselves up for the big games, but their record in more run-of-the-mill fixtures over the last few weeks is underwhelming.
Slot will want to see a serious, focused showing from his players when Liverpool take on Bournemouth on Saturday.
“If you, as Liverpool, are not disappointed by having a draw at home to Burnley, then something is completely wrong,” Slot said last weekend.
“I completely understand the frustration. I have the same frustrations, and the players definitely have the same frustrations, as the fans.”
Bournemouth vs Liverpool betting tips
Liverpool resume their top-four push against Bournemouth at the Vitality Stadium.
Liverpool can triumph
Liverpool were excellent against Marseille on Wednesday and they must try to replicate that performance this weekend.
It will not be easy. Bournemouth have picked up of late and they are the sort of team that can score goals against anyone in the division.
But Liverpool are starting to get some players back from injury and international duty, and they will be full of confidence after that success in midweek.
The Reds should not expect to have everything their own way at the Vitality Stadium, but we expect them to edge this one.

Goals await on south coast
Bournemouth have been the most entertaining team to watch in the Premier League this season.
Their 22 matches are averaging 3.45 goals every 90 minutes, the highest figure in the division. Their last eight games have contained an average of 3.88 goals.
Liverpool have tightened up defensively over the last few weeks, but they remain imperfect at the back.
Moreover, Bournemouth have scored in each of their last eight matches in all competitions, making the net bulge 16 times over that period.
A clean sheet is likely to elude both teams on Saturday afternoon.

Salah on target?
It is fair to say this season has not yet gone to plan for Mohamed Salah.
A string of poor performances saw him dropped by Liverpool late last year, leading to that infamous outburst after the 3-3 draw with Leeds United.
Salah then headed to Morocco for the Africa Cup of Nations, desperate to win a continental trophy with Egypt for the first time. However, Salah and his compatriots fell short.
The forward may well be in his last few months as a Liverpool player and he will be determined to go out on a high.
This is a chance for a fresh start for Salah, who is worth backing to find the back of the net against Bournemouth.
