Relive OG Anunoby’s tip-in via Spurs radio call
The New York Knicks took a commanding 3-1 lead in the NBA Finals following their come-from-behind win in Game 4 against the San Antonio Spurs, topped off by OG Anunoby’s game-winning tip-in with a little over one second remaining.
As one of the alternate broadcasts for the NBA Finals, Spurs’ announcers Sean Elliott and Jacob Tobey were on air for Game 4 and made the call for OG Anunoby’s tip-in and the subsequent final possession for the Spurs with 1.2 seconds remaining where they were unable to get a shot off.
Following the end of the game, Elliott remarked how the Spurs’ failure to execute late in games have prevented them for being on the opposite end of a 3-1 Finals lead.
“Game 2 and Game 4 are similar in the respect that our youth and our inexperience cost us in both those games,” Elliott said. “You don’t execute in the entire second half of this one. It was a poorly played second half I really believe by both teams, although the Knicks made some shots, they played better … this is going to be a lesson for our guys. You’re up 25, you kind of saunter out of the locker room, instead of coming out with fire … you got to try and expand that lead, you can’t be non-chalant.
“The Knicks, all they wanted to do there coming out of the locker room, is chip away, chip away, chip away some more. Get it down to single digits, and they accomplished that.”
The Knicks’ win was the biggest comeback in NBA Finals history as they were trailing by as many as 29 points before rallying back. The previous largest comeback in the Finals was in 2008 when the Boston Celtics erased a 24-point deficit in Game 4 against the Los Angeles Lakers to get a win and also take a 3-1 series lead.
