Dortmund vs Villarreal predictions
Borussia Dortmund sit 14th in the Champions League table with seven points from four outings.
The Germans began their campaign with an insane 4-4 draw away at Juventus, conceding two goals in stoppage time to throw away a certain three points. That was followed by a 4-1 home win over Athletic Club and then a 4-2 win away at Copenhagen.
Their unbeaten start came to an end when they were thumped 4-1 at the Etihad by Manchester City on Matchday 4. Already 3-0 down, BVB pulled one back through Waldemar Anton after 72 minutes, but it was a mere consolation as a dominant City restored their three goal cushion in stoppage time.
The defeat to City was the beginning of a three match winless run. A 1-1 draw away at Hamburg on Bundesliga Matchday 10 followed, with Carney Chukwuemeka’s opener for BVB cancelled out by a 97th-minute equaliser.
The theme of conceding late goals continued in Dortmund’s latest outing last Saturday. After going 3-2 up at home to Stuttgart through Karim Adeyemi on 89 minutes, BVB again conceded in stoppage time, dropping two more points in the process.
Underlining their defensive frailties, Die Schwarzgelben were pegged back three times in the match. The latest dropped points sees Nico Kovac’s team slip to fourth in the table behind Leverkusen, whom they face at the BayArena on Saturday.
Villarreal are having a really inconsistent season. They sit 32nd in the 36-team Champions League table with just one point from four outings. However, in direct contrast they are third in La Liga on 29 points, just three behind leaders Real Madrid.
Starting with the Champions League, Marcelino’s team began their campaign with a 1-0 defeat away at Tottenham. Yes, the Yellow Submarine are one of the few teams to lose to Spurs at the Tottenham Hotspur Stadium this term.
They followed that with a 2-2 draw at home to Juventus and then lost 2-0 at home to Manchester City. Those results are excusable, but their 1-0 defeat away at Pafos on Matchday 4 wasn’t.
The Yellow Submarine had by far the better of the match with 56 percent possession and a whopping 18 efforts at goal compared to the Cypriot’s three.
Wasteful is the word that probably best describes Villarreal’s finishing. They only hit the target five times, while Pafos managed to get two of their three efforts on target, scoring with one.
Domestically, Villarreal are flying. They are on a four-match winning streak and have won seven of their last nine.
Their most recent win came against Mallorca on Saturday. Goals from Gerard Moreno and Tani Oluwaseyi sealed the 2-1 win that kept them in the top three and hot the heels of Real Madrid and Barcelona.

Dortmund vs Villarreal betting tips
Both teams are desperate for the three points for different reasons. Dortmund need to consolidate their position in the playoff places and push for the top eight. Villarreal need a win to get their European campaign up and running. Our match tips follow:
Dortmund to end winless run
The bookmakers are clearly not basing their odds on this match on the respective league positions of both teams in the Champions League group.
Odds of 5/6 on a Dortmund win look well worth taking. The Germans are prone to conceding goals, but Villarreal simply haven’t got going in the Champions League and have seemed incapable of replicating their league form in Europe.
Furthermore, Dortmund have only played one Champions League match out of their four at home and they won it 4-1. Also against Spanish opposition.
The Germans have winnable back-to-back home matches coming up and will look to secure a playoff place at the very least, starting with victory over Villarreal.

Dortmund’s Euro goalfest to continue
Dortmund have scored in all 15 of their Bundesliga and Champions League matches this season.
They have also found the back of the four times in three of their four Champions League matches. Only Manchester City restricted them to one goal.
Villarreal have only lost twice in La Liga. The first was a 2-0 defeat away at Athletic Club and they also lost 3-1 on the road to Real Madrid. Put simply, they may not be up to the task when they step up in class away from home.
Throw Villarreal’s European struggles into the equation and there is a good chance Dortmund will register two or more goals.

Bet on goals again
Let’s go a bit route one with our final pick. Dortmund have scored 13 goals in their four Champions League outings and conceded 11. Their matches have averaged six goals per game.
The Germans clearly like to play on the front foot, but are equally as open and as accommodating at the back.
Over 2.5 goals with both teams to score is even money. That was a consideration for this pick. However, 7/4 is available for over 3.5 goals. So we’re going for the better odds.
Back over 3.5 goals at 7/4 with bet365
