Bo Bichette’s challenging 2026 Mets season draws honest admission from insider
The New York Mets had big expectations when Bo Bichette signed with the team, ahead of the 2026 season. New York has struggled, and Bichette has too at times. One Major League Baseball insider is explaining his take on why that has happened to the infielder.
“The story is about just the different things that he has faced since signing the contract with the Mets…no one is going to feel sorry for him…..but at the same time, it is worth noting in my opinion all the things he is facing here,” Ken Rosenthal said, per Foul Territory. “New team in a bigger market.”

Rosenthal says Bichette’s position change also affected him. He started the 2026 season at third base for New York, although he is now again playing shortstop.
Rosenthal believes Bichette also put pressure on himself to help out on offense after Juan Soto and others got hurt. The insider believes Bichette is going to continue to wake up offensively.
“Everyone in the industry feels he’s going to hit,” Rosenthal added.
This season, Bichette is hitting at a .219 batting average. He has three home runs and 21 RBIs. The Mets are 21-26 on the campaign, and last in the National League East.
Mets need Bo Bichette to pick up his offense
Bichette did have a strong performance on Monday, in a game against the Washington Nationals. He collected three hits in the game, including a home run. New York defeated Washington, 16-7.
“I know it’s been a big topic, but at the end of the year, we’re going to look back at these [seven] weeks and nobody’s going to be talking about this,” Mets manager Carlos Mendoza said about Bichette’s struggles, per MLB.com. “He’s that good of a hitter. He’s that good of a player.”
Bichette was not surprised by his powerful performance on Monday.
“I feel like I’ve had a lot of swings that have been really close lately,” he said. “I was just kind of waiting for something to connect to feel good about it.”
New York plays the Nationals again on Tuesday.
