Bo Bichette gets real after season-best performance with Mets

The New York Mets signed Bo Bichette to a huge contract in the offseason, and while that investment hasn’t really paid off so far in the 2026 MLB season, he at least made it look worth it with his performance on Wednesday.

The 28-year-old infielder had the best game of his Mets tenure so far with a terrific showing against the Seattle Mariners at T-Mobile Park in Seattle, Washington. Bichette went 4-for-4 with three RBIs and a run scored to help New York eke out a 7-1 victory over the host team, the Mariners.

Bichette, who signed a three-year, $126 million contract with New York in the offseason, was simply happy that he was able to give his team a lift.

“I felt good, I’m just excited to help the team win a game,” Bichette told Michelle Margaux of SNY after the game about his night.

The best part of Bichette’s evening was when he had a big fourth inning, with his single driving in two runs to give the Mets a 3-1 lead.

Still, the two-time All-Star has plenty of work left to do if he is to finish his first season with the Mets with a batting line that aptly reflects his salary. So far in 2026, he has been hitting only .226/.280/.310 with five home runs and 31 RBIs to go along with 19 walks through 62 games (248 plate appearances).

Freddy Peralta, meanwhile, got it done on the mound versus Seattle, allowing just an earned run on six hits with six strikeouts in 6.0 innings of work for the Mets, who improved to 27-35
