Blue Jays’ Shane Bieber shares pivotal update amid his injury recovery
Toronto Blue Jays starting pitcher Shane Bieber is dealing with an elbow injury. Bieber is among a number of Blue Jays battling injury trouble at the moment. Ahead of the Blue Jays’ game against the Rays in Tampa Bay on Tuesday night, Bieber addressed his injury status, via Mitch Bannon of The Athletic.
“Speaking with Shane Bieber, one of the many injured #BlueJays visiting the team in Tampa, he said he’s close to progressing to live hitters. His progression is ‘going as planned’ and he ‘feels great.’ Throwing a side in Tampa tomorrow, and will need live ABs and rehab games after,” Bannon reported.
Bieber, 30, was traded to the Blue Jays from the Cleveland Guardians before the 2025 MLB trade deadline. The former Cy Young winner made seven regular season appearances with Toronto in 2025 after the trade, turning in a respectable 3.57 ERA during that span. He made five appearances in the postseason (four starts) and recorded a 3.86 ERA as well.
Bieber has not pitched at the MLB level in 2026 yet, however. The Blue Jays are understandably being cautious with his injury concern. Toronto expects to compete once again in 2026, so they are hoping to have Bieber ready for the postseason. Assuming no setbacks occur, he should be able to return well before October of course.
With that being said, it remains to be seen when Bieber will return to the mound. The Blue Jays will monitor and provide updates on the veteran starting pitcher’s injury status as they are made available.
