Blue Jays sell over 100k hot dogs on 77-cent night

Toronto Blue Jays fans have had little to celebrate since their team suffered a gut-wrenching 5-4 loss to the Los Angeles Dodgers in Game 7 of the 2025 World Series. Yes, they signed flamethrower Dylan Cease and Japanese star Kazuma Okamoto, but they also watched two-time American League hits leader Bo Bichette jump to the New York Mets. Injuries are piling up in the starting pitching rotation and in the lineup, and the team lost five of six games versus the Colorado Rockies and Chicago White Sox.

Toronto badly needed a win, and so did the fan base. Luckily, those who flocked to Rogers Centre to see another Fall Classic rematch between the Blue Jays and Dodgers were treated to a massive bargain. The team honored the anniversary of its inaugural 1977 campaign by selling 77-cent hot dogs. More than 100,000 were purchased, per the Foul Territory X account. Alas, the Jays were unable to cap off this low-cost feast with a victory.

Shohei Ohtani, Kyle Tucker and Will Smith each posted an RBI, and Yoshinobu Yamamoto pitched a gem, as LA clinched the series with a 4-1 win. Toronto has been outscored 18-3 in the last two games and has now dropped six in a row. Even 77-cent hot dogs cannot mask these early-season woes.

Vladimir Guerrero Jr. continues to scuffle in the batter’s box (.699 OPS), and the bullpen is logging more innings than everyone would probably prefer. Moreover, manager John Schneider went ballistic in the fifth inning after getting ejected for arguing a controversial balk call. Not much is going right on this squad.

But at least fans can lament this 4-7 start with full bellies.
