Blue Jays call up do-it-all Triple-A star
The Toronto Blue Jays are set to promote infielder Charles McAdoo from Triple-A Buffalo, ESPN’s Jeff Passan reported Wednesday. The organization will need to open space on the 40-man roster and active roster.
McAdoo, a 24-year-old right-handed hitting infielder, is ranked as Toronto’s 26th prospect in the system, while Baseball America previously listed him as the No. 16 prospect in the Blue Jay’s farm system. He was originally selected by the Pittsburgh Pirates in the 13th round of the 2023 MLB Draft and later acquired by Toronto at the 2024 trade deadline in exchange for Isiah Kiner-Falefa and cash considerations.
At Triple-A Buffalo this season, McAdoo owns a .250/.356/.436 slash line with a .792 OPS across 49 games and 202 plate appearances. He has recorded eight home runs, 27 RBIs, 31 runs scored, six stolen bases, and 28 walks, while improving his strikeout rate to 20% after previously being higher in his minor league career.
McAdoo’s development included a full 2025 season at Double-A New Hampshire, where he hit .247/.318/.413 with a .732 OPS, 24 doubles, 16 home runs, and 45 RBIs. In 2024, following the trade, he hit a bump in the road across High-A and Double-A, managing just a .185 average while striking out at a 30% clip.
During Spring Training, McAdoo appeared in 19 games and 31 at-bats, collecting six hits, including two doubles and one home run, producing a .620 OPS. Across his minor league career, he has split time primarily at the corner infield spots, with additional experience at second base and brief outfield appearances earlier in his development.
In 2025, McAdoo combined speed and power to good effect, stealing 34 bases and hitting 16 home runs at Double-A. He profiles as a player with above-average power and arm strength, though his glove work and ability to make consistent contact remain a work in progress.
The Blue Jays, who took a 2-1 win over the Miami Marlins and sit at 27-29, 8.5 games back in the AL East and 0.5 games from a Wild Card spot, are adding McAdoo as they prepare for a four-game series against the Baltimore Orioles beginning Thursday. His first appearance will mark his MLB debut.
