The math is simple: New York must sweep all four games to keep its AL East hopes alive. Anything less means Tampa Bay celebrates at Yankee Stadium.

That's hardly the scene the Yankees envisioned entering the season, but their attention can quickly shift toward October. New York has already clinched a postseason berth and owns a commanding 5.5-game advantage over Boston for the AL's top Wild Card spot. The Yankees also own the tiebreaker over the Red Sox, which makes the Wild Card Series in the Bronx a real possibility.

Elsewhere, the AL remains chaotic.

Cleveland holds a one-game advantage over Chicago in the AL Central, but the White Sox own the head-to-head tiebreaker. Chicago currently occupies the final Wild Card spot and sits three games ahead of both Toronto and Houston.

Houston has another route available through the AL West, where the Astros trail Texas by only one game. The Astros own the tiebreaker over the Rangers, making that division race particularly important during the final six games.

Baltimore is barely hanging around at five games behind Chicago and would need an extraordinary final week to survive. They could be eliminated from contention as soon as Tuesday.

The National League playoff race is not quite as exciting with only the Arizona Diamondbacks on the outside looking in, but the Chicago Cubs are in an interesting spot after Alex Bregman was hit in the eye by a foul ball.
