The Indianapolis Colts have yet to trade Josh Downs despite his trade request, coupled with interest in the wide receiver around the league. But the delay in a Downs deal is apparently due to the Colts looking for a team that can meet their asking price.
As reported by ESPN's Ian Rapoport and Adam Schefter, the Colts have been telling teams they already have an offer of a fourth-round pick for Downs. That's lower than the Colts' original asking price of a third-rounder for the wide receiver.
It remains to be seen whether the Colts are being truthful about that fourth-round offer being on the table as they look to bump up the price for Downs. If they are, then Downs is as good as gone before the trade deadline. He's on the last year of his contract, and the logical move would be for the Colts to get what they can for him (in this case, a fourth-rounder) instead of losing him for nothing.
But if the deadline passes and Downs is still on the team, then that would raise some questions about there actually being an offer on the table. Choosing not to trade him just because they could only get a fourth instead of a third that they wanted wouldn't make much sense.
Either way, it won't be long before the resolution to the Downs trade sage is finally known. At this point, it would be a surprise if he does not get dealt away regardless of whether it's for a third or fourth-rounder.
