Denver would like to acquire a veteran tight end before Tuesday’s trade deadline, but that tight end will apparently not be Arizona’s Trey McBride.
The Broncos have checked in with multiple teams about potential tight ends they could trade for, and that included the Cardinals, who told the Broncos they’re not interested in trading McBride, according to ESPN.
McBride is 26 years old and under contract through 2029, so it’s no surprise that the Cardinals see him as part of their future, although there’s never any harm in one GM calling another to see if a player is available. If the Broncos thought there was any chance they could get him, it was smart to ask.
The Broncos’ top tight end, Evan Engram, has just 13 catches for 136 yards this season. Sean Payton would love to get more production out of the tight end position than that. It won’t be a surprise if several more teams with potentially available veteran tight ends hear from the Broncos between now and Tuesday.
