The New York Yankees' final regular-season series against the Baltimore Orioles could be affected by the same nor'easter threatening the Chicago Cubs-Boston Red Sox series this weekend.

New York is scheduled to host Baltimore for three games at Yankee Stadium, with Friday's opener set for 7:05 p.m. EDT, Saturday's game at 7:15 p.m. and Sunday's finale at 3:20 p.m. However, Yankees manager Aaron Boone confirmed Thursday that MLB has discussed moving games around because of the forecast.

According to reports from The Athletic's Brendan Kuty and MLB.com’s Bryan Hoch, there have been conversations about playing a doubleheader on Friday and having no game Saturday. Boone said no decision had been made, while Hoch reported that the forecast for both Saturday and Sunday is unfavorable.

The situation could mirror the Cubs-Red Sox series in Boston. MLB has discussed moving at least part of that three-game set to Tropicana Field in Tampa Bay because of the same storm system. Boston is expected to have a 90% chance of rain Saturday and a 95% chance Sunday, with rain and wind forecast throughout the weekend.

The Red Sox have already announced a split doubleheader against the Cubs on Friday, moving Sunday's scheduled game to 1:05 p.m. ET before the second contest at 6:05 p.m. ET.

The Yankees have already secured the top American League Wild Card position and will enter the Orioles series with a 91-67 record after winning six of their last 10 games. The Tampa Bay Rays have clinched the AL East, leaving New York with the second-best record in the AL but the fourth playoff seed. New York is expected to host Boston in the AL Wild Card round next week, with the Red Sox close to securing the fifth seed.

Baltimore, meanwhile, was eliminated from postseason contention following the Chicago White Sox's 9-1 win over the Kansas City Royals on Thursday.

With the Orioles series carrying no major postseason implications for either team, MLB could have greater flexibility with the schedule. The Yankees will first complete their four-game series against the Rays on Thursday night before the weather concerns surrounding the weekend become the focus.
