Mumbai Indians (MI) have traded in USA's left-arm seamer Tara Norris from UP Warriorz (UPW) at her base price of INR 10 lakh ahead of WPL 2027.
Norris played for Delhi Capitals in the inaugural WPL in 2023 where she became the first bowler to take a five-wicket haul in the competition. She took 5 for 29 against Royal Challengers Bengaluru (RCB) at the Brabourne Stadium, and her victims included Ellyse Perry, Heather Knight and Richa Ghosh. While UPW signed her up at the mega auction before WPL 2025, she withdrew from the tournament in order to play for USA at the Women's T20 World Cup Qualifier.
Having Norris in the squad will allow MI to play five overseas players in the XI as she comes from an Associate team. This will also be her second MI team, having played for MI London in the women's Hundred earlier this year. In six outings for MI London, Norris took four wickets at an economy of 7.83.
This is only the second trade in the WPL. RCB had traded in England opener Danni Wyatt-Hodge from UPW ahead of the WPL 2025 auction.
At MI, Norris will link up with new head coach Luke Williams. She was part of Southern Brave in the Hundred in 2021 when Williams was an assistant coach to Charlotte Edwards. Apart from Norris, MI have Shabnim Ismail, Nat Sciver-Brunt, Amanjot Kaur and Nicola Carey as the other seamers. MI have won two titles in four seasons of the WPL.
With Norris' signing, MI have completed their overseas quota for WPL 2027. MI will head into the auction on October 28 in Kochi with a purse of INR 90 lakh and six slots to fill.
