LSU basketball and coach Will Wade compensated for the loss of RJ Luis immediately. The Tigers instead pulled off a massive College Basketball Recruiting win Thursday. This one involving five-star point guard Reese Alston, the son of NBA star Rafer.
ESPN college basketball reporters Paul Biancardi and Jeff Borzello confirmed the huge recruiting coup. And Alston turned down two SEC rivals of the Tigers in making his decision.
“Alston chose the Tigers over Louisville, although he also took official visits to Kentucky, Tennessee and Wichita State, all of which were on his final list of schools,” the reporters wrote.
Furthermore, Alston pulled back the curtain on why LSU became home for him.
“The environment and the culture were amazing. I could feel the friendliness of everyone and their passion for the basketball program,” Alston said. “I watched film on my visit from when they were on top of the SEC with Coach Wade, and the place was packed. The environment was loud.”
He added that he never caught a bad vibe from being around Wade. This despite the negative reports surrounding the coach from bending the eligibility rules to past recruiting violations.

He brings his own smooth craftiness on the floor just like his famed dad, who rose to fame as street ball legend “Skip 2 My Lou.” The elder Alston starred at Fresno State under the late Jerry Tarkanian before scoring 6,799 career points in the NBA.
