The NFL is a physically unforgiving sport, so it is easy to dismiss a player who does not produce big numbers through the first three years of their career. Time is of the essence in this league, but quarterbacks have more than most. With the right coaching staff, preparation, development and supporting cast, they can rise from the ashes and achieve roaring success. Sam Darnold has proven as much, and Carolina Panthers signal-caller Bryce Young is trying to become the latest one to reach that standard.

He is off to a great start in 2026. The No. 1 overall pick in the 2023 NFL Draft threw for 287 yards and three touchdowns in Sunday's 34-3 obliteration of the Atlanta Falcons. He has now posted robust stat lines in consecutive weeks to begin the campaign, forcing media members and fans alike to take notice. Michael Irvin is excited to see this young QB come into his own during his fourth year. He was already a supporter, however.

“I love Bryce Young and I'm a big fan of his,” the legendary Dallas Cowboys wide receiver said while appearing on “The Pat McAfee Show.” Irvin is especially entertained by No. 9's connection with star WR Tetairoa McMillan, who totaled five receptions for a game-high 101 yards in Atlanta.

A formidable pass-catching group helps — Jalen Coker, Xavier Legette and Darren Waller have all had an impact in the early goings — but Young is also making visible strides from an individual perspective.

The 2021 Heisman Trophy winner is operating with composure and making some stellar throws. While the defensive pressure is bound to ramp up later in the season, Young deserves praise for what he has accomplished to this point of the year. He ranks second with 648 passing yards and is tied for first with six TD passes through two weeks of action.

If the 25-year-old can stay aggressive and boost his 63.0 completion percentage a bit, then he can cement himself as a franchise QB. Young will have the opportunity to further build his confidence when the Panthers (1-1) visit the Cleveland Browns (1-1) next Sunday afternoon.
