The Los Angeles Rams’ 28-6 Monday Night Football victory over the New York Giants delivered plenty of fireworks. However, the most emotional moment came before kickoff. Aaron Donald’s return to SoFi Stadium after ending his retirement sent the home crowd into a frenzy. Matthew Stafford was among those swept up in the celebration. The veteran quarterback threw four touchdown passes during the rout. Donald’s emergence from the tunnel for his 2026 debut, though, clearly left an equally lasting impression on Stafford.

Speaking to reporters after the game, Stafford admitted he could barely contain his excitement as Donald took the field.

“I was so juiced. He came running out of the tunnel, and I couldn't control myself. I was so fired up,” Stafford said.

He added that Donald’s value extends far beyond what he produces between the lines, praising what the defensive superstar brings to the Rams’ locker room and the Los Angeles community.

“The human being, the player — all of it combined, what he brings to our team, our locker room is just unmatched,” Stafford said.

Donald’s return also provided an immediate boost on the field. The Rams defense held New York out of the end zone. The comeback victory gave Los Angeles a 1–1 record after its season-opening loss to San Francisco.

Selected 13th overall by the Rams in 2014, Donald spent a decade establishing himself as one of football’s greatest defensive players. He earned 10 Pro Bowl selections, eight first-team All-Pro honors, and three Defensive Player of the Year awards. Donald finished his career with 111 sacks, 543 tackles, and 24 forced fumbles. His late pressure back in Super Bowl LVI helped secure Los Angeles’ championship. Now, his return has the Rams believing the best may not be behind them.
