The Indianapolis Colts have been busy fielding calls ahead of the NFL trade deadline, with running back Jonathan Taylor and wide receiver Josh Downs gaining most of the attention. As it turns out, they are even getting interest for quarterback Daniel Jones.
In a report by NFL insider Ian Rapoport with Adam Schefter, the Colts have engaged in trade talks with multiple teams for the former No. 6 overall pick. One such team was the Baltimore Ravens, who recently traded for Arizona Cardinals QB Jacoby Brissett instead. The Vikings, whom Jones was a member of in 2024, have also been linked amid the injury to Kyler Murray.
As Albert Breer explained in a post on X, formerly Twitter, Jones' contract is quite an easy one to move given its structure.
“Daniel Jones’ contract is tradeable—he’s on a base salary of $5.49 million, with $510K in per-game roster bonuses ($30K/game). Trading him for the Colts would mean his $44 million signing bonus would be a sunk cost. No fully guaranteed money after this year. Easy to move,” Breer wrote.
After going an impressive 8-5 as a starter last season, Jones has had a disappointing sophomore campaign in Indy. He has completed just 60.4% of his passes (a career-low) for 1,542 yards, with only five touchdowns and nine interceptions, one more than his total in 13 games last year. The Colts have gone only 2-6 in his eight starts.
However, it doesn't look like this has deterred teams from trying to trade for Jones. Perhaps they think a change of scenery is all he needs in order to rediscover his form of 2025.
