The Seattle Seahawks got beat soundly by the Chicago Bears on Monday. Seattle lost, 34-17, and Seahawks quarterback Sam Darnold struggled. Darnold opened up after the game about why he couldn't get a handle on the defensive pressure.
“I felt like we couldn't get anything going…..credit to those guys. They had a good plan. They executed on a high level,” Darnold said, per ESPN. “…..I always think it starts with first and second down efficiency.”
Darnold might be having nightmares about the Bears' defensive players. Jeffery Simmons in particular seemed to be chasing Darnold around the field all night.
“Per ESPN Research, Sam Darnold was pressured on 14 of 39 dropbacks against Chicago. While pressured, he went just 1 of 11 for 13 yards and an interception,” ESPN reporter Brady Henderson posted to X, formerly Twitter.
Chicago is now 6-2 after the win.
Seahawks got humbled by the Bears
The Seahawks couldn't find a rhythm on offense. Seattle struggled to run the ball; the team finished the game with just 81 rushing yards. Seattle also went just 1-for-11 on third down conversions.
“We got beat. No other way to sugar coat it,” Seahawks head coach Mike Macdonald said, per the Associated Press. “When you look at the things that it takes to win in our league, we didn't do those things and they did.”
Simmons was recently traded to the Bears from the Tennessee Titans. He clearly was fired up and ready to go on Monday.
“When I attacked the field, I wasn’t worried about the trade,” Simmons said. “I wasn’t worried about all the outside noise. All I was worried about is play after play, just give the team everything I got.”
The Seahawks are coming off a season that saw them win a Super Bowl title. Things look sour for the team right now; the squad has dropped three of their last four contests.
Seattle is now 4-4 on the season. The team next plays the Arizona Cardinals on Sunday.
