Justin Herbert and the Los Angeles Chargers are in big trouble after losing their first two games of the 2026 NFL season. Their struggles presented major concern for Mina Kimes.

Los Angeles is often in the picture for playoff contention, having garnered big regular-season victories over the years. However, they have taken steps back to start 2026 after losing to the Arizona Cardinals and the Las Vegas Raiders. Kimes reflected on the team's flaws during her appearance on ESPN.

“It's been a bit shocking, at least to me. I thought they'd be a lot better than me. Yeah, I wanted to say here's what went wrong, but honestly, what went right? Because everything right now in LA is bad. I think that's what strikes me watching them is just team-wide execution errors on both sides of the football. Herbert's obviously not playing well, but it goes way beyond him,” Kimes said.

“Brutal drops across the four, failures in blocking assignments, something that jumped out through just two weeks. They have seven false starts, which leads the NFL, and I think captures the fact that this offense still the new Mike McDaniel offense hasn't really [gelled]. The execution is not there in Los Angeles, and then defensively, everybody's so focused on the offense being bad. Equally, this defense has taken a step back with Jesse Minter gone. You saw some of the busted coverages there, not sufficiently getting pressure. It’s everything. That’s kind of the problem with LA right now. It’s not just one thing.”

What lies ahead for Justin Herbert, Chargers this season

Justin Herbert and the Chargers have time to regain themselves with the season still early. However, it will have to be quick as the games won't get easier.

Los Angeles' next five games feature opponents that have strong cases as serious contenders. Buffalo, Seattle, Denver, and the Rams stand out among the bunch, presenting concern for the Chargers if they don't get it together soon.

The Chargers seek their first win of the season when they gear up for their next matchup, being on the road. They take on the Buffalo Bills on Sept. 27 at 1 p.m. ET.
