Ever since Team USA, led by Kevin Durant, LeBron James, and Stephen Curry, took home the gold medal at the 2024 Olympics in Paris, Durant has made it clear that he isn't done with international basketball just yet. Although the Houston Rockets star is entering his 19th NBA season at 38 years old and has no idea what the immediate future holds, he is still keeping his eyes on 2028.
The United States will host the 2028 Summer Olympics in Los Angeles, and Durant wants to captain the Stars and Stripes once again as the current five-time defending gold medalists.
While overseas in China for preseason games against the Dallas Mavericks before the 2026-27 season begins, reporters asked Durant whether he's still considering playing for Team USA, especially given his platform on the international stage. After a quick smirk for the camera, Durant made his intentions clear.
“We'll see,” Durant said. “I mean, it definitely would be amazing. It's always incredible to represent your country, and I would love the opportunity again. But a lot could happen in that time. So many great players in the league, so the most I can do is stay on top of my game.”

Confirming his desire to once again play for Team USA and hunt for another gold medal has been a common trend with Durant over the last couple of years.
Article Continues BelowIn February, Durant told ESPN that he wants to play in the 2028 Los Angeles games, but it would be dependent on where he is at in his career and how well he can still play since he would be 40 years old. He did make it clear that as of that moment, he would put his “name in the hat” to be on the 2028 Olympic roster.
After all, Durant made it clear after the gold medal win in 2024 with Curry and James that there was never a “Last Dance” announcement about him playing for Team USA. Although it's unlikely we'll see Steph and LeBron in LA for the 2028 Olympics, Durant seems to be a man on a mission.
Already the most decorated USA Men's Basketball player of all time, Durant could add a fifth straight gold medal to his collection if he takes up the mantle of captain one last time.
