Fantasy football managers tempted to send Cam Skattebo to the waiver wire after his Week 6 goose egg can finally breathe easier. According to NFL Network insider Ian Rapoport, the New York Giants expect Skattebo to resume his role as their lead running back against the Houston Texans on Sunday. Although his official starting status remains uncertain, head coach John Harbaugh indicated that the bruising back would receive a significantly larger workload. With veteran Najee Harris released Tuesday, Skattebo has a clear path toward reclaiming the volume that once made him an appealing fantasy option.
The reversal follows a disciplinary benching against the New Orleans Saints. Skattebo played just six snaps without recording a touch. His ball-security problems have become a significant concern. He has had five lost fumbles across 14 career games. Still, Skattebo acknowledged that he was “taught a lesson.” He reportedly put together a strong week of practice, giving the coaching staff reason to restore his responsibilities.
Skattebo's 2026 campaign has been a turbulent ride. Through New York's first six games, he recorded 294 rushing yards, one touchdown, and 10 receptions on 81 carries. His punishing interior running helped anchor the ground game after Jaxson Dart's season-ending knee injury. Still, the fumbles during that stretch undermined his progress. Now, with Harris gone, the Giants plan to feature Skattebo while rotating Tyrone Tracy Jr and Devin Singletary into situational roles.
Article Continues BelowHouston presents a difficult matchup, though. They do have a stingy defensive front. Nevertheless, fantasy football managers should prioritize opportunity. Skattebo's expected workload makes him worth holding. He remains a risky Week 7 starter until his usage is confirmed. Still, dropping him after one disciplinary benching could mean missing out on a valuable second-half rebound.
