The Dallas Cowboys may not be done shopping for defensive help. Arizona Cardinals pass rusher Josh Sweat is emerging as a name to watch before the NFL trade deadline. At 2-4 after a disappointing 23-13 loss to the Green Bay Packers, Dallas needs answers for a defense that has recorded just eight sacks. ESPN insider Jeremy Fowler recently reported that league executives view Sweat as a strong schematic fit for the Cowboys. Of course, fit and interest do not necessarily mean a trade is imminent.
The timing could make sense for both sides. Arizona is also 2-4, leaving its front office facing questions about the team's direction. General manager Monti Ossenfort previously insisted the Cardinals had no interest in trading Sweat. At the same time, the team's disappointing start could change the calculus as the deadline approaches. Dallas, meanwhile, must weigh its urgency against a shrinking supply of draft capital.
Sweat's 2026 campaign has unfolded amid organizational uncertainty and persistent trade chatter. After recording a career-high 12 sacks in 2025, his first season in Arizona, the veteran entered this year under a spotlight following offseason frustration surrounding his situation. Through six games, he has registered nine tackles and two sacks. He cam potentially provide Dallas with an experienced edge defender who could help strengthen its pass rush. His established production also makes him an intriguing option for other contenders.

Monday night's road matchup against the Philadelphia Eagles could prove pivotal. If Dallas shows it can remain competitive in the NFC East, owner Jerry Jones may have greater incentive to pursue Sweat before the deadline.
