Ole Miss quarterback Trinidad Chambliss took responsibility for the Rebels' 34-27 loss against Texas after a difficult first half and a late interception prevented them from completing their comeback on Saturday.

“The room for error is definitely smaller now,” Chambliss acknowledged following the defeat. “Even after the loss to Florida, I feel like it was still slim there too. You never want to lose a game, especially when it's achievable to win. I feel like Florida and tonight were games we could've won. That just goes on me as a quarterback. Having three points in the first half is unacceptable and I take full responsibility for that, there's no excuse for that. But, yeah, now we gotta win out.”

Ole Miss entered halftime trailing 24-3 after managing only three points across their first six scoreless drives, which ended with punts or interceptions. The Rebels also surrendered more than 100 additional yards to the Longhorns during the opening half.

However, Ole Miss responded after the break, scoring 21 consecutive points to erase their deficit and tie the contest at 24 early in the fourth quarter. Defensive lineman Blake Purchase forced a fumble with a strip sack less than two minutes into the second half, and Kam Franklin recovered the ball for a touchdown to put the Rebels on the scoreboard.

Chambliss subsequently connected with Horatio Fields for both of his touchdown passes, including a 27-yard scoring play that brought Ole Miss level with Texas. Fields finished with both receiving touchdowns, while Deuce Alexander led the Rebels with eight catches for 87 yards.

The Longhorns regained control by scoring a touchdown and a field goal, forcing Ole Miss to mount another late response. After a field goal and a successful onside kick gave the Rebels another opportunity, Chambliss moved the offense into Texas territory. However, his final attempt toward the end zone was intercepted with two seconds remaining.
