On Monday, the Golden State Warriors had their media day — with fans getting a look at Stephen Curry heading into the 18th season of his career. Curry is one of the most accomplished players in the history of the NBA, and he has four rings to his name throughout his time with the Warriors.

Considering that Curry is accustomed to winning, seeing the Warriors roster fall apart around him must bring some sort of whiplash. This even led to some murmurs that Curry could, perhaps, ask for a trade so he can get one last chance to compete. But in the end, he squashed all that noise by signing a two-year, $116 million contract extension with a player option for the 2028-29 campaign.

This extension would make Curry the highest-paid player in NBA history (based on NBA earnings only), and one would presume that this would keep him with the Warriors until the day he retires. And his former teammate Jordan Poole, now with the New Orleans Pelicans, knows just how much Curry deserves that kind of distinction.

“Steph’s one of the greatest players to play in our league, and he’s one of the, if not, the greatest shooter,” Poole said during the Pelicans' Media Day session, via @jinthirty on X. “Obviously, they have a lot of different teammates and changes as you try to make championship level runs, but you know, he is a big part of that Warriors organization, rightfully so. And credit to him.”

It is also telling that Poole, despite all the drama that pushed him out of the Warriors organization, can still look to Curry for mentorship.

“That’s the big homie, so I’ll reach out if I need anything, and we have conversations and stuff and chop it up over the season and course of the summer. But you know, tremendous guy, hard worker, tremendous athlete and one of the best to play our game,” Poole added.
