A new book claims Tom Brady went through a nearly 20-pound weight loss amid marriage trouble with his ex-wife, Gisele Bündchen.

According to Lars Anderson’s book, Brady: An American Story and the Price of Greatness, his teammates on the Tampa Bay Buccaneers were worried that there was a medical reasoning behind the sudden weight loss.

Former Buccaneers head coach Bruce Arians said, “It was very clear that the reason for the weight loss was the stress from the personal issues he was dealing with,” and that Brady “looked like a cancer patient with really good hair” according to an excerpt from his book via People.

Brady's weight loss was allegedly “jarring” to those around him as he “prides himself on his physical condition,” according to Arians.

“He just seemed miserable, not even close to the Tom we all loved. He was so stressed,” Arians added.

Bündchen and Brady filed for divorce in 2022 after 13 years of marriage. While Brady has not publicly co-signed the contents of the book, he did share how the last season of his NFL career was hard on him.

The Herd with Colin Cowherd earlier this year, Brady, now 49, opened up about how his divorce affected his final NFL season.

“My last season was tough,” he confessed during The Herd with Colin Cowherd in January. “I was going through, I had a lot of, you know, a personal family issue.”

“And it was a challenge, and it was very … it just took a lot out of me in terms of, you know, my ability to play,” he said seemingly referencing the divorce.

The former couple share two children together son Benjamin Rein Brady and daughter Vivian Lake Brady. He also shared John “Jack” Edward Thomas Moynahan with ex-girlfriend actress Bridget Moynahan.

Brady and Bǔndchen have since moved on. The former Victoria's Secret model married her husband, Joaquim Valente, in December 2025 following the birth of their son in February 2025. The NFL icon is not publicly in a relationship but he is no longer playing football following his retirement in 2023. He is now entering his third year in broadcasting since he signed a 10-year, $375 million contract with Fox Sports in May 2022 as the lead NFL color analyst.
