Stephen Curry and the Golden State Warriors have flipped the script on their season, and the superstar guard revealed that a message from head coach Steve Kerr after an 0-3 start helped spark the turnaround.

Speaking after Thursday’s 120-100 win over the Miami Heat, which extended Golden State’s winning streak to six games, Curry looked back at what Kerr told the team after a loss to the Phoenix Suns on Oct. 24.

“It was in Phoenix, I think he was talking about after that game, I know a lot of guys didn’t play, but he just mentioned sticking with the process and the things that he’d noticed on film and just the feel in games, like we were really close to being able to put together, you know, winning performances,” Curry said after the game.

Curry pointed to some encouraging signs even during the losses, including the closing minutes of a narrow defeat to the Memphis Grizzlies.

“And the Memphis game, again, inside the last four minutes, the way that those guys played in Phoenix and then how we’ve been playing since, it’s just small building blocks of an identity of how this team is supposed to compete,” Curry said. “And I think the biggest part is he just was proud of how hard we were playing. And everybody’s taking on that challenge as well when they come in the game.”

Kerr’s patience has paid off. The Warriors opened the season with a 127-105 loss to the Los Angeles Lakers, followed by a 111-108 defeat to Memphis and a 131-122 loss to the Suns. They have not lost since.

Golden State has rattled off wins over the Denver Nuggets, Minnesota Timberwolves, Lakers, LA Clippers, Suns and Heat. That stretch included a 116-113 win over Phoenix on Monday, with Curry pouring in 34 points against the team that handed Golden State its third loss.

In the latest victory, Curry scored 29 points in just 28 minutes, while rookie Yaxel Lendeborg added 17 points, eight rebounds, six assists and three steals. Nine Warriors finished with at least eight points, a sign of the depth Kerr has been able to lean on.

The Warriors, now 6-3, will look to keep the momentum going when they host the Orlando Magic on Saturday before closing their homestand against the New Orleans Pelicans on Monday.
