Over the course of his remarkable career, UFC Lightweight Champion Justin Gaethje has faced off with some of the leading fighters in the industry. However, he still hasn't competed against Conor McGregor.

With McGregor injured and recovering, the possibility of the fight is slowly slipping away. McGregor recently expressed his intentions of having his last UFC fight in 2027, but in spite of the low chances, Gaethje is still interested in clashing with “The Notorious One.”

Speaking on the Flagrant podcast, Gaethje opened up about fighting McGregor. While entertaining the fantasy matchup, Gaethje first decided to poke fun at McGregor's injured knee. “Yeah, it’d be fun… I don’t care. Best case scenario he shows up with a bum knee and gets hurt in the first five seconds,” Gaethje said.

Gaethje's comments stem from McGregor's humiliating loss to Max Holloway earlier this year. At UFC 329, McGregor made his long-awaited return to UFC and faced off against Holloway. However, just seconds into the match, McGregor blew his knee. The referee stopped the fight and declared Holloway the winner of McGregor's five-year-long UFC comeback fight.

Earlier this year, while speaking to CBS Sports’ Damien Harris, Gaethje had opened up about facing McGregor rather than revisiting his past to avenge those losses. “Damn, there’s really no one. It would have been Oliveira or Holloway, but since [Ilia] Topuria beat them, I’m going to go ahead and justify it to myself like I got them back,” Gaethje said. “So I guess [Conor] McGregor. Fun to shut him up.”
