A few days ago, UFC middleweight Champion Sean Strickland expressed his resentment over his existing UFC contract. Strickland then followed it up by teasing a jump to Jake Paul's MVP. Hours after Strickland expressed his frustrations over his UFC pay and fair pay dispute, he launched another video on social media, where he publicly slammed the promotion.
Now, Strickland has received major support from MMA veteran Jorge Masvidal. The former UFC champion Masvidal sees nothing wrong with Sean Strickland's demand for fair pay.
“It hurts to hear that, truly. We’re at a good place, getting 1.3 billion dollars a year. Why can you not pay this guy? Maybe he's not the biggest star of the company, but he's top three,” Masvidal said. “Sean is talked about everywhere. Maybe there are some who get a wider audience, like Ilia or Gaethje, but I don't think that even those guys have the cult-like following that Sean has,” he added.
“Super controversial guy, super fun to watch, happens to be the current world champion. Then why is he complaining about pay? I'm always gonna be on the fighters' side. Pay these guys more, UFC. Pay these guys more,” Masvidal finished.
Strickland's protest over his UFC payment began after Dana White and the promotion reportedly rejected his request for a higher amount than his contracted payout to defend his title against Nassourdine Imavov. Since then, Strickland has taken several shots at the promotion. Following his rants, Strickland also got into a discussion with MVP's co-founder Jake Paul on social media.
