At this point, everyone knows the conflict between Troy Aikman and Joe Buck, and the tensions might've boiled over on the small screen during their latest NFL Monday Night Football (MNF) broadcast on ESPN.

A clip from their broadcast on Monday, Nov. 2, 2026, went viral. Buck is introducing himself and the rest of the crew, including Aikman, who barely smiles when his name is called.

Maybe it was just an off moment for Aikman, but the recent reports of his unhappiness with the network and fight with Buck suggest otherwise.

Aikman and Buck had a heated confrontation before the MNF game between the Los Angeles Rams and the Buffalo Bills a few weeks back.

It stemmed from the former Dallas Cowboys quarterback being unhappy that his partner signed a five-year, $108-million contract extension with ESPN.

After all, they have been a duo for over two decades. They jumped ship from FOX to join ESPN in 2022. Aikman didn't appear happy that his broadcasting partner negotiated a new deal without him.

This led to their confrontation before MNF a few weeks ago. Aikman was asked about it afterward and appeared to indicate that he was set to become a “free agent” after this season. This means his longtime partnership with Buck might be ending after 22 years.

They still have about half of the regular season to go together. Aikman and Buck are also set to call the Super Bowl, which marks the first time ESPN has broadcast the game. That historic night will bring an end to their fifth season on ESPN. Buck's new deal will keep him around until at least ESPN's next Super Bowl in a few years.
