The Texas Longhorns were scheduled to take on Pete Golding's Ole Miss Rebels in Week 8 action during a time when athletic director Chris del Conte commented on Arch Manning and his teammates' situation. Stephen A. Smith commented on why Manning is still a low-risk prospect heading into the 2027 NFL Draft, while former NFL QBs Tim Tebow and Chase Daniel spoke about his struggles.

Daniel said that Manning is “not seeing or trusting” his reads on the football field, but the problems are happening because of his teammates as well.

“Film don't lie,” Daniel added as he broke down how Manning's eyes were often focused on the wrong receivers. Tebow pointed out one route where Manning's receiver was running a go route and continued his route out-of-bounds, showing the team-wide issues that have been plaguing Texas so far this season.

Daniel also took Manning to task for attempting and looking for too many risky passes down the field.

“You're putting the ball in harm's way,” the former Missouri and NFL QB said.

Manning was also the target of comments by head coach Steve Sarkisian heading into Week 8's game against Heisman candidate Trinidad Chambliss, Golding and the Rebels.

Manning stuck around in Texas when he could have left for what many commentators thought were greener pastures. He continued his development with Sarkisian's program, but things haven't worked out the way fans, media, and members of the Manning family hoped. The Longhorns have a tough road to hoe if they hope to make the College Football Playoff, and it starts in Austin against Ole Miss with what fans hope will be a better Manning performance.
