The UCLA Bruins took on the Michigan State Spartans at the Rose Bowl on a day when coach Bob Chesney dropped a Nico Iamaleava surgery revelation. Ty Dieffenbach served as starting quarterback and led UCLA to a 14-7 halftime lead, completing 10-of-19 passes for 84 yards after getting an “ultimate compliment” from Chesney.

Things took a turn for the worse with 20 seconds left before halftime as Dieffenbach suffered a leg injury, met with trainers, and walked off the field.
