This time last year, the Milwaukee Brewers were busy getting swept by the Los Angeles Dodgers, who went on to win the World Series. This year, the tables have turned in the National League Championship Series. The Brewers are now one win away from sweeping the two-time defending champions and reaching the Fall Classic themselves.

Brewers manager Pat Murphy had a simple message for his team after that embarrassing sweep at the hands of the Dodgers. Based on how this year's NLCS has gone so far, he believes the team took his message to heart.

“I said, ‘Hey guys, remember this. It hurts, remember it. I think they remembered so far. It seems like they remembered,” Murphy said, per Bob Nightengale of USA Today.

In last year's series, the Brewers did not even lead in a single inning against the Dodgers en route to getting swept. But this year's series has been a much more dramatic affair despite Milwaukee being up 3-0. In all three games, the Brewers have had to come from behind to beat the Dodgers.

Such has been their resilience that in the last two games, the Brewers have answered immediately every time the Dodgers have scored. Then, they would finish strong and seal the victory. In Game 2, they finished with four unanswered runs to win 7-4. And in Game 3, they did one better with five runs in the last three innings to emerge 6-2 winners.

Whether or not Murphy's message to remember the pain truly stuck with the Brewers, they are now one win away from erasing the awful memories of last year by reaching the World Series.
