In the final week of the preseason, the New York Knicks are in the middle of a roster crunch involving James Wiseman and Bruce Brown. Ahead of the Knicks' first title defense in 53 years, New York waived Drew Eubanks, who suffered a torn pectoral muscle injury.
With enough cap space to keep one veteran while staying below the second apron, the defending champions will have to trade a player if they plan on keeping Wiseman and Brown, as SNY TV's Ian Begley noted.
“Prior to the Drew Eubanks injury, center James Wiseman had put himself in good position to make Knicks’ final roster, per SNY sources familiar with the matter,” Begley reported. “Knicks have enough room under 2nd apron to keep one camp vet. Bruce Brown has also put himself in good position to get roster spot, but Knicks would need to trade a rostered player to make that happen.
“Brown, in my opinion, would be a great value addition for the Knicks, giving them strong veteran depth in case of injury. ESPN reported Eubanks will be waived after suffering pectoral injury.”
In addition to waiving Eubanks, New York will also released two more players, according to The Athletic's Shams Charania.
“The Knicks are waiving Tony Bradley and Ochai Agbaji along with Eubanks,” Charania reported.
