Texas got a much-needed win on Saturday, defeating Ole Miss 34-27. While the Longhorns got the win, it was not all good news for the team. The top Texas offensive lineman, Trevor Goosby, was injured and lost for the rest of the season.
Now, an update on the future of Goosby has been given, per Pete Thamel of ESPN.
“Sources: Texas left tackle and top NFL draft prospect Trevor Goosby underwent a successful repair of his torn patellar tendon yesterday. Noted orthopedic surgeon Dr. Daniel Cooper performed the surgery in Dallas. Goosby is expected to make a complete recovery with no residual effects on his knee,” Thamel posted on X, formerly Twitter. “Goosby is undecided on his future. He’ll choose whether to return to Texas or declare for the NFL in the upcoming month.”
Goosby enrolled at Texas ahead of the 2023 season, taking a redshirt season. He appeared in 15 games in 2024, making two starts. Last year, he became the starting left tackle and was named First-Team All-SEC. He could decide to return to school in 2027 or head to the NFL.
Goosby had been seen as a top pick for the 2027 NFL Draft. In the latest ClutchPoints Mock Draft, Goosby is slated to be selected sixth overall. Meanwhile, other outlets have Goosby going a little later, but almost all of them have the tackle going in the top ten of the 2027 NFL Draft.
Article Continues BelowWith Goosby out, Andre Cojo will be moving into the left tackle role. The senior offensive lineman stepped in last week against Ole Miss and had a solid run-blocking grade. Still, he struggled somewhat in pass protection, giving up a sack and a quarterback hurry.
Texas returns to the field on Saturday to host Mississippi State.
