The Detroit Lions are currently gearing up for their upcoming game on Sunday afternoon against the undefeated divisional rival Minnesota Vikings. The Lions are slated to get a big boost to their defensive backfield at some point in the near future when safety Kerby Joseph returns from a knee issue that has kept him out for the entirety of this season so far.
Recently, head coach Dan Campbell spoke on what Joseph brings to the table for Detroit.
“Everybody loves Kerby. He's a good teammate,” he said, per Ian Rapoport of the NFL Network on X, formerly Twitter, via the Lions.
Joseph has been out with the knee issue since midway through last year, and Campbell emphasized that there will be a ramp-up process for the star in practice before he is able to return to the lineup for game action.
The Lions' defensive backfield as a whole has looked much different than what fans were hoping for this year, as Joseph has been out, in addition to cornerback Brian Branch, who only recently made his season debut after working his way back from a torn Achilles injury.
The team is also without Terrion Arnold, who was released by the Lions following his offseason arrest.
Article Continues BelowOverall, the Lions have played mostly solid football this year, and recently proved that they can win without a huge day from the offense in their victory over the divisional rival Green Bay Packers over the weekend.
Having Joseph back at some point in the near future should certainly help them out as they look to build toward the playoffs.
The Lions and Vikings are slated to kick off on Sunday at 1:00 pm ET.
