The Houston Texans are currently gearing up for their Week 2 game against the Cincinnati Bengals at home. The Texans are coming off a tough loss to the Buffalo Bills in a shootout on Sunday, with the team ultimately coming up just short on its final drive of the game.
On Thursday, the team got a tough injury update regarding pass rusher Jadeveon Clowney heading into Week 2.
âÂÂ#Texans Pro Bowl edge Jadeveon Clowney not practicing due to knee injury. DeMeco Ryans had said he would return to practice today,â reported Aaron Wilson of KPRC2 on X, formerly Twitter.
Clowney was on the field for the Texans during their Week 1 loss to the Bills but suffered the injury during that game and had been out of practice since then. The fact that he wasn't on the practice field on Thursday despite Ryan's assurance is certainly not a great sign for his status heading into Week 2.
Clowney reunited with the Texans this offseason after previously having been drafted by them number one overall out of South Carolina. He has since carved out a strong NFL career and remains a good pass rusher well into his 30s, joining a Texans defense that was among the best in the NFL last year and is expected to be once again this season.
Unfortunately, that unit didn't hold up its end of the bargain against the Bills on Sunday, and they now have a test against another high-powered offense in the Bengals this week. Kickoff for that game is set for Sunday at 1:00 pm ET.
