The Houston Texans are looking for greater consistency from their offensive line as they prepare for the second half of the 2026 NFL season. Head coach DeMeco Ryans believes second-year offensive tackle Aireontae Ersery has the ability to become a bigger contributor, but wants to see him bring more intensity to every snap coming out of the team's bye week.
Ryans praised Ersery's work protecting the edge but challenged him to maintain a higher level of effort.
“Tae has done some good things for us, protected on the edge,” Ryans said. He added that the young tackle needs a more consistent “relentless motor” and must finish his assignments through the whistle.

Houston enters the second half of the season with a 2-5 record, sitting second in the AFC South behind the Jacksonville Jaguars (5-2). With the division still within reach, improved offensive line play could be important to the Texans' efforts to turn their season around.
Article Continues BelowErsery has started all seven games for Houston this season, playing 458 offensive snaps while taking on a full-time role at right tackle. He owns a 57.8 overall grade according to PFF, with a 66.7 pass-blocking grade. However, he has also allowed 22 pressures, including four sacks, showing why greater consistency remains important.
The coaching staff has specifically challenged the second-year tackle to carry that mentality into the remainder of the season. With Houston entering an important stretch of its schedule, improved consistency up front could help the offense find a stronger rhythm.
For Ersery, the post-bye period presents an opportunity to turn his coach's challenge into meaningful progress. Sustaining his effort and finishing plays could make him an increasingly reliable piece of Houston's offensive line.
