Terence Crawford was surprised by Dana White's suggestion he has the perfect fight for him to make a comeback.
'Bud' retired on top of the world after beating Canelo Alvarez to become undisputed super-middleweight champion last September.
The victory saw his star power shoot further into the stratosphere, with multiple offers for more fights naturally landing at his door.
Saudi boxing chief Turki Alalshikh is keen to lure Crawford out of retirement and has proposed bouts with Ryan Garcia and a rematch with Alvarez.
Zuffa Boxing promoter White has also claimed he is working on the perfect fight to bring the Omaha native back into the sport.
Crawford responds to White's plan
Crawford has been left surprised by the American's public admission, but is intrigued by who the opposition would be.
He said during an interview with Seconds Out: "I heard White say that and I still donâÂÂt know what fight he is talking about.
"So, IâÂÂm like âÂÂOK?âÂÂ.âÂÂ
When asked about his public retirement U-turn, which he later withdrew, seemingly in an agreement to face Jaron Ennis, Crawford played things down.
He added: âÂÂI just made a valid point when I called out Boots.
"You say you wonâÂÂt fight Vergil [Ortiz Jr,] or Canelo because you are belt hunting, then you turn around and say you will fight a retired fighter?
âÂÂIt just made it clear as day that you donâÂÂt wanna fight Vergil at all.âÂÂÃÂ
Could Crawford end retirement and fight again?
Since he hung up his gloves, he has resisted any interest in stepping back in the ring.
Crawford was initially considering a return at 160lbs to try and make history as a six-weight world champion.
But Janibek Alimkhanuly moved up to 168lbs after being stripped of his title following a failed drugs test, and he eased into retirement.
Several options are likely still on the table including a rematch with Canelo, for which he'd likely command a fee of over $100million.
Disputes and rivalries are emerging with Garcia and Ennis, but they are likely to remain outside of the ring despite the former's offer.
His legendary trainer Brian 'BoMac' McIntyre believes he is done in the sport, having left an incredible legacy.
