It's obvious that Taylor Swift and the MTV VMAs have a good relationship, as the singer has attended some of the recent ceremonies, like in 2024, and she will be the first recipient of a new award this year.

The VMAs announced that the “Cruel Summer” singer would be receiving the first MTV VMA Artist Director Honors at this year's ceremony on Sunday, Sep. 27.

It is unknown who will present Swift with the award. Fans may have to tune in to find out who gives her the first-of-its-kind award.

The 2026 MTV VMAs will be broadcast on CBS on traditional cable. Additionally, it will be available to stream live on Paramount+. The ceremony starts at 7:30 pm EST.

Snoop Dogg will serve as the host of the ceremony, and Madonna leads the way with 11 nominations. Swift is also one of the most-nominated artists with nine.

Her nominations include Artist of the Year, Video of the Year (“The Fate of Ophelia”), Song of the Summer (“I Knew It, I Knew You”), and Best Album (The Life of a Showgirl). This will be her first time at the VMAs since the 2024 ceremony. She skipped the 2025 ceremony after going the year before.

If Swift attends the ceremony, which is held in Los Angeles, California, that means she will likely miss Travis Kelce and the Kansas City Chiefs' next game. They will travel to Miami to play the Dolphins on Sunday, Sep. 27.

However, she has been seen at the last two Chiefs games. Both of them were at home at Arrowhead Stadium. She attended the team's Week 1 win with Tom Cruise before attending the team's overtime win against the Indianapolis Colts on Sep. 20.

Swift is enjoying her husband's likely final year in the NFL. He contemplated retirement after a disappointing 2025 campaign. The Chiefs won just six games in 2025.
