The Pittsburgh Steelers' offense was made to look helpless in Week 2 against the New England Patriots, causing coach Mike McCarthy to point the finger at himself. Former Steelers coaches including Mike Tomlin and Bill Cowher also joined in the discussion after the dismal 20-3 loss.

Cowher spoke to CBS' NFL Today show during which he lampooned Pittsburgh for not having an identity on offense.

“The offense does not have an identity right now. And you can't get the running game going. It really starts with the offensive line. They've got a lot of players playing different positions at that point. They have not been able to mesh together with this offense.”

Cowher also pointed out Aaron Rodgers' issues under center.

“I think right now, Aaron (Rodgers) does not feel comfortable back there. They've got to maybe simplify things, or at least open it up, and get Aaron in a position where he can feel comfortable back in that pocket.”

Rodgers isn't pushing the panic button after a bad performance from he and star wide receiver DK Metcalf, but the Steelers are looking like a team with a limited ceiling once again. They were outgained 327 yards to 235 against the Patriots and looked disjointed on several key plays. Rodgers looks like the speed of the game is overwhelming to him at times, putting him in harm's way against defenders willing and able to light him up with big hits.

September 27 brings a home game against the Bengals that will provide further evidence about the Steelers' maligned offense. A win will quiet the critics, and restore hope, if Rodgers and company can get it done.
