Mike McCarthy and the Pittsburgh Steelers will have challenges along the way after falling 20-3 to the New England Patriots on Sunday afternoon.

McCarthy started his first year at the helm for the Steelers, embracing a new era in franchise history after Mike Tomlin's retirement from the position. His campaign started with a win over the Atlanta Falcons, but it took a step back after falling to the Patriots on the road.

McCarthy spoke with media following the team's first two games of the season. He was brutally honest about the team's ceiling, knowing they punch above their weight and put forth all their effort in beating their opponents this year.

“At the end of the day, it's our job to whip the other guy's ass,” McCarthy said, per reporter Mike DeFabo.

Mike McCarthy has the coaching talent to have the Steelers be in the playoff picture. However, for them to be in serious contention for a championship run, they must get past opponents better than them to get over the hump.

Pittsburgh failed to record a touchdown throughout the game against the Patriots in Week 2, only managing a field goal in the second quarter. Meanwhile, New England scored in all four quarters, an aspect that the Steelers need to improve moving forward.

Aaron Rodgers was unable to find holes in New England's defense. He only completed 23 out of 39 passes for 187 yards and an interception, absorbing four sacks from opposing defenders.

Jaylen Warren led the run game with 11 rushes for 43 yards, while catching two passes for 34 yards. Germie Bernard led receivers with four receptions for 35 yards and Pat Freiermuth caught four passes for 32 yards.

The Steelers will look to bounce back in their next matchup, being at home. They gear up for a rivalry clash with the Cincinnati Bengals in Week 3 as kickoff commences on Sept. 27 at 1 p.m. ET.
