After a troublesome over the past few days for the South Carolina football program, Shane Beamer opened up about another update regarding Dylan Stewart on Tuesday. However, his comments still left the South Carolina edge rusher’s status for Saturday’s game at Florida unclear.

Stewart returned to team activities after spending last week away from the program, but Beamer said his availability will be decided throughout the week.

“I mean, I guess he's not suspended from team activities, which is what I said last week, so today was the first day that he was in meetings,” Beamer said. “I do believe my job as a coach… is to win football games, but it's also to help young men grow. And as I alluded to you guys last week, I've hoped that holding Dylan accountable last week was a learning lesson for him and that there was growth from that.”

"He's not suspend from team activities."

“He's a good young man (that) I care a lot about. You know, and I'm not condoning what happened in Tuscaloosa at all. It's unacceptable,” he added.

Given Beamer’s comments, Stewart seems to have regained access to the team, but not necessarily his spot on the field. The coach said Stewart had several difficult conversations during the past week and believed the junior had earned an opportunity to return.

Stewart was suspended after South Carolina’s 49-18 loss to Alabama on Sept. 26. He punched Alabama tight end Josh Ford and also had multiple confrontations with South Carolina coaches during the game.

He missed the Gamecocks’ 35-34 overtime loss to Kentucky while serving the SEC’s one-game suspension. The junior now has a chance to work his way back into the lineup against Florida. South Carolina enters the matchup at 2-3 overall and 0-3 in SEC play, while the Gators are 4-1.
