Days after walking out on the Portugal national team during their UEFA Nations League campaign, Cristiano Ronaldo has now confirmed his status with the team. In a recent social media post, Ronaldo addressed his ongoing tussle with manager Jorge Jesus and confirmed that he's not retiring from international soccer.
Ronaldo, 41, left his country's Nations League camp last week after sitting on the bench for the entire 90 minutes against Norway and then finding out he would not start against Denmark, following an emergency meeting.
Recently, in a lengthy statement, which nearly ran 2,000 words, the Al-Nassr star said accepted responsibility for his actions. However, he still accused Jesus of breaching his trust for not playing him against Norway and for going back on a decision to present an agreed version of events to the media.
“The Portuguese Football Federation must assess the consequences of my actions and punish me for them. I believe the punishment should not be reduced. I have already apologised, but I know that actions have consequences,” Ronaldo said.
Ronaldo's statements come a few days after Jorge Jesus had claimed that the door was still open for Ronaldo to return. Dismissing his retirement rumors, the former Real Madrid star said, “After my suspension period ends, I will be available, as I always have been, to compete and win with our national team,” he added. Ronaldo has over 146 goals in 234 Portugal appearances. He has also helped his team secure one UEFA EURO and two UEFA Nations League titles. As of now, there are no confirmed updates regarding his comeback.
