Colts running back Jonathan Taylor’s future in Indianapolis is the subject of much scrutiny right now, but head coach Shane Steichen said on Wednesday that Taylor isn’t looking for an immediate exit.
Steichen told reporters at a Wednesday press conference that Taylor has not asked for a trade in the wake of the team’s decision to trade defensive tackle DeForest Buckner and guard Quenton Nelson. Wide receiver Josh Downs reportedly requested a trade on Wednesday and Taylor would likely net the team a rich return to use as part of a rebuilding effort that kicked off with last week’s firing of General Manager Chris Ballard.
Steichen acknowledged all of that chatter, but said that he is moving forward with Taylor until told otherwise.
“Those are hypothetical things right now,” Steichen said, via Stephen Holder of ESPN.com. “I know there’s stuff floating around out there, but JT’s on our football team.”
Steichen said that it is going to be tough to keep moving forward through the upheaval, but that’s “what we signed up for” and the next two weeks will determine just how sweeping the in-season changes are in Indianapolis.
