On Sunday, the Seattle Seahawks cruised to an easy road win over the Arizona Cardinals to improve to 2-0 on the 2026 NFL season. Backup quarterback Drew Lock made the start in this one in place of the injured Sam Darnold and tossed three touchdown passes, all of which were hauled in by superstar wide receiver Jaxon Smith-Njigba.

Now, the team has gotten the latest update on Darnold's status moving forward from ESPN NFL insider Adam Schefter during an appearance on The Pat McAfee Show.

“Sam Darnold is making progress and he will have a chance to come back this week.. They don't have to rush him along and Drew Lock is playing great,” said Schefter, per Pat McAfee on X, formerly Twitter.

Indeed, Lock has looked solid so far during his time under center this year, first engineering a thrilling comeback win over the New England Patriots in Week 1, and then easily dismantling an Arizona Cardinals team that had previously knocked off the Los Angeles Chargers to open up the season.

Darnold suffered his injury in the opening moments of the game vs New England, but clearly, the team feels no pressure to rush him back, especially considering how comfortable the veteran Lock has looked so far.

Still, the Seahawks will no doubt want Darnold back sooner rather than later, so it's good that he is making strong progress in his injury recovery process.

In any case, the Seahawks will next hit the field on Sunday afternoon for a road game vs the Washington Commanders.
