The Philadelphia Eagles suffered their first lost of the season in front of a national audience. Philly got crushed by Chicago on Monday Night Football, losing 27-7 at Soldier Field. One Eagles player wants to make sure that such a decisive loss does not happen again.
Eagles running back Saquon Barkley issued an urgent challenge to his teammates after his team's collapse against the Bears on Monday night.
“We know the problem,” Barkley told reporters after the game, per The Athletic's Zach Berman. “Got to get better at it.”
Barkley got off to a hot start in the first half, rumbling for 73 rushing yards. However, that all changed in the second half as Barkley only added an additional nine rushing yards to his total. The Eagles need to find a way to maintain their offensive production throughout a full four quarters.
“It’s easy to sit here and say, ‘We got to do this, we got to do this,’” Barkley said. “Now it’s about time we got to do it.”
The Eagles did not score a single point during the second half. It did not help that Jalen Hurts was picked off by T.J. Edwards late in the third quarter. But that still left Philly with several other opportunities to respond and put up points of their own.
Another problem was Hurts struggling to complete passes on crucial third downs. Philly went 2-of-9 on third down, which ground their offense to a halt.
Ultimately, the game script flipped in the second half and did not break in Philly's favor. Now the sky is not falling for Philly after Monday's dreadful loss. But they do have a lot to fix before their next matchup.
Next up for the Eagles is a home game against the Rams. That Week 4 contest kicks off at 1 p.m. ET on Oct. 4 from Lincoln Financial Field.
