The New Orleans Saints survived an ugly overtime game in Week 9. New Orleans survived 23-22 against Cleveland in a game that featured plenty of excitement. It did not look pretty, but the Saints emerged victorious and currently sit atop the NFC South division standings.
Saints reporter Mike Triplett explained how the team is still on top of the division despite their 3-5 record.
“Saints survive an ugly one against the Browns in overtime. And, unbelievably, the Saints are now tied for first place in the NFC South at 3-5,” Triplett posted on Sunday. “Bucs, also 3-5, play at Chicago tonight. Panthers 3-5 (at Saints next week). Falcons 3-6. Yuck.”
The Saints nearly lost the entire game in overtime. New Orleans started with the ball and scored a touchdown to Juwan Johnson. Cleveland got the ball next, knowing that a touchdown with a two-point conversion would win the game. And that's exactly what they attempted.
Browns tight end Harold Fannin had an absolutely incredible play in the closing minute of overtime. Fannin caught a pass at the 37-yard line, broke two tackles, and rumbled into the end zone for a touchdown. Unfortunately, the Browns were unsuccessful on their two-point attempt, giving the Saints the win.
